This week the weather has been playing havoc with the local racing scene seeing the summer series at Ludgershall cancelled. However Wednesday night stayed dry for the Mountbatten series race. Brook was in the action in the 3/4 race once again whilst in the E/1/2 race for Peter Hansford RT we had myself, Andy, Harry, Ollie and Mike.
After some early attempts to break away and some strong driving on the front to split things up everything settled down. It was then that Harry jumped away taking a couple riders with him before others saw the danger and jumped across to form a strong break. It was then that I managed to jump the gap with help from the other boys trying to control the bunch. Peter Hansford the only team with 2 riders in the break, this meant the onus was on us to drive the break and we did it well gaining and maintaining a half lap lead over the strung out chasing bunch.
In the final the break broke up with everyone not wanting to pull into the wind so with 2 laps to go there were 3 riders up the road with Harry and I refusing to drag Justin Hoy and Jon Dibben to the line who are almost certain to take the win in a sprint.
With just over 1 lap to go Justin took up the chase with Jon Dibben and I on his wheel. We caught two of the riders up the road and Jon and I sprinted round Justin. On the line Jon only just pipped the remaining rider, Ian Legg, out front to the win with myself just a wheel away from the win but having to settle for 3rd. A close finish and I am sure to get it next time!
