Blustery Thruxton

Once again Thursday night saw a cancellation, this time in the local 10mile TT that I had promised that I would ride. However riding out the the course did get me out on the bike for a few hours training in the rain.
Friday night after driving through pouring rain, I arrived at Thruxton motor circuit for the Platform lifts summer series race 2. I was greeted by the windiest conditions I have ever raced in at the exposed circuit. The race immediately split to pieces on the first lap in the cross winds with some great riders being shelled from the main pack. Pedal Heaven dominated the race driving a break of 4 off the front containing 3 of their strongest riders which is where they stayed whilst I got myself into the 2nd group of 7 riders on the road. We formed a strong chase group but the gap didn't come down the remainder of the race. On the final lap it was very cat and mouse with everyone knowing it was a headwind finish. On the final drag I drifted to the inside of the circuit and nobody followed me across, realising my opportunity I opened the gas and headed for the line still with around 500m to go. Luckily the group all looked at each other and nobody closed the gap allowing me to finish 5th however the night had taken alot out of my legs and I am left wondering how much I have left for tomorrows Omega stage race in Portsmouth.
