Mountbatten (Aka. Wed night world cup) 30th May
It feels like I haven't raced in a long time after the end of the warm up races at Thruxton and the cancellation of all racing at Goodwood motor circuit due to insane health and safety rules. I will be finishing University this week so I will be looking to travel to Ludgershall every Monday and look for more racing at the weekends.
On to the racing! Niall was in action in the 3/4 race where everyone stayed upright for the duration of the race for the first time in a while and Niall was unfortunate to miss the break. A fast field of riders lined up last night at Mountbatten for the E/1/2 race, with the weather staying warm and dry. Peter Hansford RT had Brook (in his first race in this category), Harry, Mike and myself. The first notable move was a group of 8 riders going clear with Harry making his way into this group.
I tried to bridge the gap to add more firepower and took 2 iTeam riders with me. I was frustrated when one jumped me to make it into the break and the other sat up, I couldn't believe it after doing all the hard work to get to within 30m of the break and to me I didn't see the tactical sense from their point of view. So for me it was back to the bunch and set about controlling a very active group with Mike. It took a long time but the break of 8 riders finally took a lap.
In the final laps I managed to get up the road with Harry jumping the gap into the group to compete for the win. I did my best to do a one man lead out for him however with a few really punchy sprinters in the group also a lap up on the bunch Harry had to settle for 4th. All in all a frustrating race!
For me now it is a couple more days hard training mixed in with some good food for the Jubilee celebrations before looking to race more in the coming weeks.
Congratulations to Brook for comfortably completing his first E/1/2 race!
Results and Photos to come!
Don't forget to get involved in the conversations on twitter..... @RacingReynolds and @HansfordCycles or pop into the shop and chat to the team, many will recognise shop mechanic stevie who is taking some great photos of the action.
Ride safe
