Friday 22nd I travelled up to Thruxton once more for the 3rd round of the Platform lift summer series meeting Harry there for the E/1/2 race. The conditions were again very windy however the sun was out and it was friday so I couldn't wait to race.
After the usual early digs from various teams, including Harry and I, a break of three riders went clear. I didn't leave it long and grabbed at my opportunity to ride across the gap. I had to drive hard on the back side of the circuit but I made contact just before the headwind section which would have been make or break. Later we were joined by 2 more riders to make it a break of 6 with just 10 minutes of the race remaining.
We stayed clear although the bunch, containing Harry, closed down considerably in the final laps. On the final lap it was all about playing the game of getting in the right position and covering attacks without using too much energy. Rowan Horner of VC St Raphael went clear on the final drag with one other in pursuit, no-one wanted to commit to chase him down and soon he had an insurmountable lead. I took up the challenge and drove hard for the line catching the rider up the road to take 2nd place and see Rowan celebrate up ahead.
After 3rd on wednesday and 2nd in this race I can only see the legs getting stronger and another win for the Peter Handford RT soon!
