Wednesday night saw the 1st race of a new series at the Mountbatten track, fighting off illness and tired legs I decided to race anyway to get away from my University studies.
Once the race started I felt ok and got away with Will Stephenson (Primera-specialized) and managed a half a lap gap before being reeled in enough for his team mate, Toby Neave, to jump across and join us, not to worry though as Harry joined us very soon after, with GWR rider Henry Newbury making it across to form a strong break of 5. With the bunch driving hard it took a further 30 minutes for us to gain a lap on them with Ollie, Andy and Mike doing well to steady the pace in a strong pack of riders.
A group of 3 slipped up the road later in the race but in the end it came down to a sprint between the 5 break away riders of the evening! Ollie did a sterling job controlling the front of the bunch in last few laps, with Andy on his wheel who put the hammer down when the Primera train tried to attack us! I quickly jumped from wheel to wheel before sprinting to take the first win for the Peter Hansford RT and my first win in a race since gaining my 2nd category licence after coming close too many times. It was a model race from the team and I was pleased to be able to finish it off after the hard work the boys put in.
It has been a couple days since the race and I have ridden up to London and back to visit my girlfriend clocking a total of 250km. I am feeling pretty tired now so an easy day on the bike tomorrow before the Regional Road Race Champs on Sunday (if I get a ride as I am currently a reserve having missed the entry deadline). It would be great to help the team to another successful race.
I would like to congratulate my girlfriend on being nominated for employee of the quarter at Warner Bros this week, despite being an intern. She didn't win but it is nice that she is recognised for her work and we now have an expensive bottle of champagne to share with the next team win!
