Well finaly we have our new team kit and for its inaugural race Harry was in action at the Ham Hill RR down in Somerset. This is what he had to say about it:
The
race was 60 miles in the sunshine in Somerset. One long drag of a hill
and otherwise pan flat and fast (think it averaged 27mph). In the first
lap there was a lot of shouting going on as the motorcycle marshals
tried to keep us from straying over the
white lines. A break of 6 went away but was always in sight and soon
closed down, only for another to peel off on lap 6. This included
someone from Felt and a couple of Wilier riders, so the onus to chase
was on Zappi's as the remaining major team. They didn't get a lot of
support, so that come the final lap the lead group had a minute. At this
stage the remaining Felt boys took up the chase, realising that Wilier
were looking well placed for the win. With 5 miles to go, we could see
the break ahead, minus Colin Parry, who unknown to me had already jumped
off alone. Coming through the tight corners of Marston Magna, I
attacked off the front of the peleton, and was joined by a Cadence
Cannondale rider. Together we bridged across to the break, which was no
longer working effectively. I found myself coming through for my turn as
we approached the final corner, and accelerated through this hard to
throw the rest off. It was a few hundred metres to the finish, and I was
50 metres clear by the time I wobbled through with a
full victory salute. My triumph lasted the five seconds it took Will
Bjergfelt to finish and politely explain that Colin Parry had won 38
seconds clear. Nevermind: the victory pictures (with surprised
spectators) will still look the part.
