Did someone say Team bikes?
After Peter Hansford’s became an accredited FOCUS
Bikes dealer we could sort out some shiny new carbon steeds to
race on. Looking over the German manufactures
road range you are really spoiled for choice. We eventually settled on the shimano Dura-Ace/rotor equipped Focus Izalco Pro 1.0. The
rotor cranks while having standard round rings where really the deciding factor. I tried a demo set from the Winchester shop I couldn’t believe how stiff they
where.
I know you should take all sponsored
shop rides bike reviews with a pinch of salt but I’m genuinely impressed with
the focus. I’ve owned all sorts of bikes
over the years. From road rockets that are phenomenally fast, responsive and
handle like they are on rails. To smooth compliant grand tour bikes that
absorbs each bump and pothole like a Rolls Royce. Most bikes
tend to get the balance one-way or other by sacrificing something along the
line, but the focus handles power like a road rocket but I can ride it all
day!
Is there anything I would change? In short yes, the fulcrum 5’s that come with
it are OK, robust, hardwearing and spin up well and are good enough to race on but lack a little magic something that the
bike deserves. I addressed this issue by
parting with some of my hard earned on as set of American Classic carbon tubular
85’s. Again from a manufacture I had not
really looked into before I wasn’t sure what to expect from them. Suffice to
say I wasn’t disappointed they not only look the business but roll
fantastically, and are very well made.
I’m so
impressed with the Focus Izalco frame, rotor cranks, 7900 group and the AM
classic wheel I urge you to go and take
a look, you won’t be disappointed!
